Red river hogs ( piglets )
6/19/2008 by Animals and Pets Labels: pigs
Four red river hogs root around their home at the San Diego Zoo. The piglets, born on April 27, get their striped and spotted look from a combination of dark skin beneath light hair. This coloring helps young red river hogs blend into their native rain forest habitat in central and western Africa. As these piglets mature, they will begin to look like their father, Legolas, with a red, shaggy coat, a raised, white mane that runs the length of the spine and black and white tassels on the tips of their leaf-shaped ears.
